In the period 4-6 June, in the towns of Kotel, Nova Zagora, Tvarditsa and Sliven, the Sliven District Information Point conducted seminars whose topic agenda was "The EU Funds: supporting people with disabilities".
Those present were over 80 representatives of associations of people with disabilities, Municipal Social Assistance Services, the Bulgarian Red Cross, non-governmental organisations active in the sphere of social services, Municipal Administrations, etc., familiarised themselves with projects of the new Operational Programme "Human Resources Development" 2014-2020. The lecturer at the meeting, Ms Petya Grudeva, representative of a non-governmental organisation from the city of Plovdiv, with significant experience, having worked under the project for provision of support to people with disabilities, presented good practices in the implementation of projects financed under the Operational Programmes in Bulgaria.
The biggest was the interest in the towns of Sliven and Nova Zagora. During the discussions at the end of each seminar, the most frequently discussed topics referred to the architectural environment accessible to people with disabilities, and to the possibility for the non-governmental organisations to apply for under the Operational Programmes during the new 2014-2020 programming period
At all four seminars, the Manager of the District Information Point presented data on the implementation of projects in the sphere of social services in the territory of the Province. Under Priority Axis 5 "Social inclusion and encouraging of the social economy", 12 projects were successfully concluded in the territory of the Province of Sliven amounting to a total of 1 436 943 BGN, of which the amount of disbursed grant was 1 337 832 BGN. Within the framework of the concluded projects, two Family Type Accommodation Centres for children were established in the Municipalities of Sliven and Nova Zagora, and the services „Personal Assistant" and "Home Aid" are provided to over 500 lonely people and people with disabilities in the Municipalities of Sliven, Nova Zagora and Tvarditsa. Such projects involving provision of social services are being implemented at present in the three Municipalities within the framework of procedure "Assistance at Home" under the Operational Programme "Development of Human Resources".
