Sliven Municipality will invest in cleaner public transport with the financial funding under OP Environment

The Minister of Environment and Waters Mr. Neno Dimov, the Mayor of Sliven Municipality Mr. Stefan Radev and the Manager of Public Transport Ltd. Mr. Encho Petrov signed a contract for the renewal of public transport in the municipality.

The project is funded by Operational Program Environment 2014-2020 (OPE). The total investment is BGN 13.2 million. OPE will provide BGN 11 million.

Four new eco-friendly electric buses and 6 trolleybuses with improved energy efficiency will be purchased. The new vehicles will replace 11 of the most depreciated diesel buses and trolleybuses.

It is expect3d that the activities will reduce the emissions of nitrous oxide by 3.41 tonnes per year and fine particulate matter by 0.17 tonnes per year. The implementation of the activities will contribute to the improvement of the air quality for the 118,000 inhabitants of Sliven Municipality.

 The implementation period is 39 months.
