OP Environment supplies municipalities of Varna and Bourgas with 116 electric eco-firendly busses

The Minister of Environment and Water  Mr. Neno Dimov, the acting Mayor of Varna Municipality Mr. Peycho Peichev and the Executive Director of City Transport EAD - Varna Mr. Zlati Zlatev signed an agreement for municipal urban transport modernization. The project is funded by the Operational Programme Environment 2014-2020 (OPE). The total amount of the investment is BGN 85.4 million. OPE provides BGN 70 million.

60 new electric buses for the public transport in Varna Municipality will be purchased with the financial means of OPE. Delivery and installation of 60 stations for slow loading of buses and one station for fast loading are foreseen. With the implementation of the project, the amount of fine particulate matter (PM10) emitted by the source will be reduced by 1 ton annually.
The implementation of the activities will contribute to the improvement of the air quality for more than 340 000 inhabitants of Varna Municipality. The implementation period is 39 months.

Minister Dimov also signed an agreement for improvement of the air quality in Bourgas by modernizing the public transport in the municipality. The acting mayor of the Municipality Mrs. Yordanka Ananieva and the manager of Bourgasbus EOOD Mr. Petko Dragnev also signed the agreement.

As a result of the project 56 new electric buses, charging stations and additional equipment to the existing public transport management systems will be delivered. With the implementation of the measures under the project, the amount of PM10 will be reduced by nearly 4 tons per year, which will improve the ecological characteristics for the 208,000 inhabitants of Burgas.

Currently, 8 contracts for urban transport modernization have been concluded. The total amount of the activities is BGN 463 million, provided by OPE under the procedure "Measures for Addressing Transport as a Source of Air Pollution".
