Integrated Water Project for the District of Burgas

Integrated Water Project for the District of Burgas has been prepared to achieve compliance with the national and European legislation in the field of water supply, collection and treatment of wastewater and increase the effectiveness of systems and installations. The project activities aim at achieving compliance with the National strategy for management and development of the water sector in the Republic of Bulgaria as well as the "Europe 2020" Strategy of the EU for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth by taking actions in construction of watersupply and sewage infrastructure. The identification of specific sites on the watersupply and sewerage systems will contribute to full compliance with the requirements of Directive 98/83/EC of 3 November 1998 and Directive 91/271/EEC of 21 May 1991. As a result of the analysis and studies carried out , the following measures were identified to be included in the scope of the project: reconsruction and rehabilitation of the existing watersupply and sewerage system as well as contruction of new systems and facilities in thirteen aglomerations with over 10 000 p.e. - Burgas, Nesebar, Pomorie, Sozopol, Primorsko, Obzor, Aytos, Karnobat, Tsarevo, Kiten, Chernomorets, Sarafovo and Lozenets, part of the designated area served by ViK EAD Burgas. The project envisages reconstruction of 158,296 km of water supply and 22,147 km of sewerage network, as well as construction of 6,834 km of water supply and 73,154 km of sewerage network. One new WWTP will be built and 3 other WWTPs will be reconstructed. Reconstruction of 2 potable water treatment plants is also planned. Additional population with access to improved wastewater treatment and the total pollution load treated in full compliance with applicable legislation will be 324 566 p.e. Additional population with access to improved water supply will be 279 011 residents.
